From Dushanbe drive to Fann Mountains also called Fannsky Gory. These mountains are part of the western Pamir-Alay mountain system and are primarily located in the Sughd Province.
Drive to the Artuch village through picturesque Varzob Gorge and Zarafshan Valley.
Camp at Artuch which is located in the heart of the Fann mountains at a height of 2200 meters. The camp is a comfortable base where you can take a sauna and enjoy the night.
Start the trek towards Kulikalon lakes which can be covered in 5-6 hours. This lake lies on the northern slope of Chimtarga peak.
Overnight camping at the shore of Bibijanat. The altitude difference is +695 meters.
Ascend from Alauddin pass to Alauddin Lakes will be covered in 6-7 hours. The beautiful panorama of the surrounding peaks and lakes can be seen from the top of the pass.
After breakfast from the shore of Alaudin Lake, start the slow ascent to Mutnoe lake ( 3520 meters). This will take about 5 hours.
Soak in the breathtaking vistas, the sight of the small beautiful lake Piala will leave you breathless by its loveliness.
On your Tajikistan visit, you will experience the joy of an afternoon at the largest and the most outstanding of all the lakes – the Iskander Kul lake which lies in the east of the mountain group and was formed by the partial blocking of the Iskandar Darya. Legend has it that the lake is traditionally supposed to have been visited by Alexander the Great. From the lake, you will trek to the Snake Lake and the waterfall popularly referred to as the Niagara of the Fann Mountains.
Once back in the megacity of Dushanbe, soak in the culture, people, and cuisine. In the local Tajik language, Dushanbe means Monday. Legends say it was named this way because it grew from a village that originally had a popular market on Mondays.
Take a trip to Tajikistan’s national museum which is housed in an impressive modern building with an elliptical roof and giant atrium. The collection has three main sections – natural history, archaeology, and contemporary fine arts. Among the most precious exhibits are the murals from ancient Penjikent and an exquisite 10th-century wooden mihrab (mosque prayer niche) found near Ayni.
Visit the Vahdat Palace also known as the Palace of Unity. Located at the prestigious Rudaki Avenue it is also the headquarters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party and is used to host international conferences.
Visit the Palace of Nations locally known as Kohi Millat. This is the official residence of the President of Tajikistan and was built in 2002.
Visit the Gurminj Museum of Musical Instruments founded in 1990 by Gurminj Zavkibekov, a famous Tajik actor and musician. The museum boasts of over 100 musical instruments mostly representing the Pamiri and the Badakhshani musical traditions. The collection is dominated by string instruments, such as the tar, rubab, Pamiri rubab, tanbur, dutor, setor, qashqar, and ghizhak. There are also a number of drums such as tabl, daf, and doyra.
